Nordic Iron Ore participates in “Smart Exploration Research” – a project led by Uppsala University
Nordic Iron Ore is a partner to the research center “Smart Exploration Research”. The research center has been granted SEK 60 million by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research and is a multidisciplinary center that will do research on exploration and refinement of metals and minerals. The research is led by Uppsala University and is important for the ongoing energy transition and society’s adjustment to the climate.
The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research has granted SEK 60 million to the research center “Smart Exploration Research”, a multidisciplinary research center that is led by Uppsala University and will do basic and innovative research on strategic and critical metals and minerals, research that is of great international importance. The research center’s main task is to create a responsible and sustainable supply of these raw materials, something which is necessary to support the ongoing energy transition and society’s adjustment to the climate.
Contributions in the competition came from Sweden’s largest universities with active participation from both large Swedish industrial companies as well as smaller niche companies. Nordic Iron Ore is a partner to the winning proposal “Smart Exploration Research”. The research center is expected to commence its operations in January 2024 and operate during six years.
The research center ”Smart Exploration Research” is run by Alireza Malehmir, Professor in Geophysics at Uppsala University and includes experts in geological science, nano technology, data analysis, drill technology, drones and robot solutions. The project includes participation from researchers at Lund’s University, Stockholm’s University and Gothenburg’s University, as well as representatives from Epiroc, Nordic Iron Ore, First Quantum Minerals, Tyréns, Smarkand2015, BitSimNow, Eurobattery Minerals and Amkvo.
