As of April 2, production at the Tara mine has been resumed. Prior to resuming production, dialogues has been held with authorities as well as union representatives regarding actions taken to assure a safe working place with regards to spread of the Corona virus. The actions now taken are considered sufficient to safeguard the health of employees and contractors at the Tara mine.

As of March 28, the Irish government imposed strict restrictions in the country, which has halted production in the Tara mine until further notice. The Irish restrictions are announced to last for at least 14 days. Boliden is evaluating how supply of concentrate to its own zinc smelters can be ensured despite the loss of production in Tara.

There was continued successful exploration in Tara in 2019, while the Mineral Reserve in Kevitsa has also increased. Garpenberg and Aitik have Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves that will secure production for many years to come.

"Mineral Reserves are increasing at our open pit mines and this is an important development. The focus within underground mines is now on Tara and the Boliden Area, where we are developing the deposits we have identified," says Stefan Romedahl, President Business Area Mines.

Exploration costs in 2019 were SEK 570 million (520).

Sales revenue for the fourth quarter was SEK 12,972 million (12,543), with an operating profit, excluding revaluation of process inventory, of SEK 1,721 million (2,001). Free cash flow amounted to SEK 822 million (1,721). Sales revenue for the year as a whole totalled SEK 49,936 million (52,454), with an operating profit, excluding revaluation of process inventory, of SEK 7,035 million (9,074).
