ChemoTech's TSE Reports 97% Complete Remission and Stronger Than Expected Clinical Results in Equine

Scandinavian ChemoTech AB provides an update regarding the clinical abstract on Tumour Specific Electroporation™ (TSE) in equine sarcoids, which was previously expected to be published in connection with ECVS 2026. The abstract "Bleomycin tumour-specific electroporation of Equine Sarcoids: 26 cases" has now been published earlier than anticipated, ahead of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons Annual Scientific Meeting, taking place July 9-11 in Liverpool. The abstract reports a 97% complete remission rate at 8 months follow-up in treated equine sarcoid lesions, with most horses treated under standing sedation.

The abstract, authored by Prof. Cathrine T. Fjordbakk, DVM, PhD, Dipl ECVS & ECVSMR, Norwegian University of Life Sciences, presents clinical results from 26 horses treated for equine sarcoids using bleomycin in combination with Tumour Specific Electroporation™ (TSE).

A total of 66 sarcoid lesions were treated, ranging from 1 to 10 lesions per horse. Lesions were located on the head, trunk, and limbs and included nodular, occult, verrucose, mixed, and fibroblastic sarcoids. At 8 months follow-up, complete remission was reported in 25 of 26 horses and in 64 of 66 treated lesions, corresponding to a complete remission rate of 97%.

Most horses were treated under locoregional anaesthesia and standing sedation, unless lesion location required treatment under general anaesthesia. Horses received between 1 and 4 TSE treatments at 4-6 week intervals. The only noted adverse treatment effect was non-painful local swelling, which regressed within 2-3 weeks after treatment.

This means that 64 out of 66 treated sarcoid tumours were no longer visible at follow-up. Most horses could be treated while standing under sedation, avoiding general anaesthesia in the majority of cases. The reported side effects were limited to temporary, non-painful swelling.

"These results are highly encouraging and exceed our initial expectations," said Mohan Frick, CEO of Scandinavian ChemoTech AB and inventor of TSE. "The reported 97% complete remission rate across 66 treated lesions represents a very strong clinical outcome and further supports the potential of TSE as a precise, tissue-sparing treatment option for equine sarcoids."

Equine sarcoids are among the most common skin tumours in horses and can be difficult to treat, particularly when located in sensitive areas where surgery may lead to scarring, functional complications, or recurrence. The published abstract describes the use of intralesional bleomycin followed by immediate TSE, either alone or in combination with surgical debulking.

Bleomycin is a chemotherapy drug with low toxicity to non-tumour cells. TSE is designed to increase the uptake of bleomycin into tumour cells and thereby enhance the local anti-tumour effect. According to the published abstract, tumour-specific electroporation can increase bleomycin uptake into tumour cells by up to 700-fold.

For ChemoTech's Animal Care business, the published abstract represents an important clinical and commercial milestone. The results provide independent academic support from a leading European veterinary university and strengthen the positioning of TSE as a modern treatment option for equine sarcoids.

The ability to treat most horses under standing sedation may also offer important practical advantages for veterinarians, horse owners, and clinics, including reduced treatment complexity, lower anaesthesia-related risk, less stress for the horse, faster recovery, and improved accessibility in a wider range of clinical settings.

ChemoTech's Animal Care team will be present at ECVS 2026 in Liverpool with staff and a dedicated booth to showcase the vetIQure™ TSE therapy platform and meet equine veterinarians, surgeons, specialists, and clinicians with an interest in tumour and sarcoid treatment.

"We look forward to discussing these results with equine veterinary specialists at ECVS," continued Mohan Frick. "The early publication of this abstract further validates our strategy to build strong academic partnerships and to support the adoption of TSE as a precise, tissue-sparing cancer treatment for animals."
