High Coast Distillery awarded for world's best whisky
High Coast Distillery has been awarded as the world's best whisky at this year's prestigious World Whiskies Awards with its exclusive edition Distillery Exclusive 11. The distillery has been awarded several times in the Swedish whisky category but now wins gold for the first time in competition with all the world's whisky.
The international competition, considered the world's most prestigious in the whisky industry, brings together whisky connoisseurs and competing distilleries from all over the world.
- We are extremely proud that Distillery Exclusive 11 has received this recognition. The whiskies in the series are carefully selected for our distillery visitors and capture the essence of the inviting and sociable quality experience High Coast Distillery wants to stand for says, Roger Melander, Master Distiller.
- High Coast Distillery is still a relatively young distillery and the fact that we are already producing what whisky connoisseurs call the world's best whisky is inspiring for the next few years' bottlings of even more mature whisky. Then we will really take the whisky world by surprise, says Roger Melander.
Awarded in the "Single Cask Single Malt 12 Years and Under" category, the Distillery Exclusive 11 is a peated whisky matured for 10 years in bourbon casks. Visitors have been able to hand-bottle the whisky at the distillery and it has flavours characterised by coconut and vanilla with notes of apples and pears.
With this award, High Coast Distillery confirms its position in the production of quality whisky, not only in Sweden but throughout the world.
The award was presented at the annual gala in London on Wednesday evening.
