Metsä Board on vuonna 1986 perustettu kartonkiyhtiö. Metsä Board on johtava eurooppalainen ensikuitukartongin tuottaja. Yhtiö keskittyy kevyisiin ja korkealuokkaisiin ensikuitukartonkeihin, joita käytetään pääosin kuluttajatuotepakkauksissa ja vähittäiskaupan tarpeisiin. Lisäksi yhtiö valmistaa kemiallista sellua ja valkaistua kemihierrettä omaan käyttöön sekä myytäväksi. Metsä Board omistaa 24,9 % osuuden Metsä Fibrestä. Metsä Boardilla on myyntiä noin sataan maahan, ja yhtiö työllistää henkilöitä noin kahdessakymmenessä maassa.

Ilmankos tuossa linkatussa Fast Marketsin jutussa puhutaan NBSK spotista Euroopassa hyvin erilaisesta tasosta spottimarkkinoihin liittyen…  Fastmarkets assessed pulp, northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK), spot, dap Europe, at $730-745 per tonne net in January on February 10, up by $10-15 per tonne from the December level of $720-730 per tonne. This was based on business transacted on a euro basis more or less unchanged from December, but the exchange rate pushed the dollar level upward.

Olen täältä palstalta aiemmin ymmärtänyt, että nuo Euroopan noteeraushinnat on lähinnä viitteellisia, kun valtaosa myydään “alennuksella“.  Ja Euroopan todellinen hintataso olisi lähellä Kiinan tasoa. Siellähän hinnat ei ole juurikaan liikahtaneet.

Ruotsin SCA eli Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolag nostaa havusellunsa hintoja Euroopassa. Onko tässä jääräpäisenä tervaskantona alettava uskoa, että merkkejä markkinan paranemisesta on ihan oikeastikin?

Tätä juhlistetaan Suzanon lähes 12 % kurssinousulla. Myös Suomessa ja Ruotsissa tänään pörssien selluralli. Suzano jatkaa tuotannon rajoittamista tänä vuonna viime vuoden tavoin kuristamalla tuotantoa 3,5 % tai noin 0,5 miljoonaa tonnia, koska lisätonneilla ei saada yhtiön mukaan riittävää tuottoa. Sellun hintatasoa markkina- ja kustannusjohtajan osallistuminen tarjonnan rajoitustalkoisiin voi jossain määrin tulpata tai luoda pientä yläsuuntaista painetta, mutta toki kysynnästä ja kysynnän kasvunäkymän vinkkelistä liike ei toki anna hyvää kuvaa. Yleensähän kestävämmän ja jyrkemmän hinnan nousun polttoaineeksi tarvitaan juuri kysynnän kasvua, kun taas tarjonnan (väliaikaisen) rajottamisen vääntövoima on ainakin pidemmällä aikavälillä pienempi. Suzano raportoi myös Q4:nsa. Laskenut sellun hinta ja valuutat painoivat liikevaihdon ja käyttökatteen alamäkeen vuositason vertailussa. Konsensusodotuksista minulla ei ole tarkkaa tietoa, mutta epäilisin, että ainakin suunta on ollut markkinaodotusten mukainen.

Joutsenon talteenottolinja on vuodelta 1998 ja kuitulinja vuodelta 2001. Kaukaalla samat 1991 ja 1996. Ainakin googlen perusteella. Kaukaalla kello käy nopeammin umpeen. Olisin yllättynyt, jos Metsä luovuttaa ensimmäisenä, koska firman olemassaolon perusta on luoda puulle kysyntään. Mutta alle 5 vuoden sisään saamme vastauksen.

The acquisition, signing of which was announced on 23 January 2026, strengthens Metsä Board's sheeting capacity and service capabilities in the European market.The Winschoten facility is one of Europe's largest and most advanced sheeting and distribution hubs, with an annual capacity of approximately 100,000 tonnes and 22 employees. The parties have agreed not to disclose the transaction price. Following the completion, Metsä Board will begin integrating the Winschoten Hub into its European operations, aligning production, logistics and customer service processes.
