TalkPool AG: Talkpool Supports Digicel in Restoring Jamaica's Communications Infrastructure After Hurricane Melissa

TalkPool

Talkpool announced that it will support network operator Digicel in restoring Jamaica's mobile and fiber-optic communications networks following the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa.

The Category 5 storm caused extensive damage across the island, severely affecting housing, water, electricity, telecommunications, and road infrastructure. The Jamaican government estimates the total economic damage to be between US $6 billion and $7 billion-equivalent to nearly a third of the nation's GDP-with some experts warning that losses could reach as high as US $16 billion. Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness described the hurricane's impact as the most severe disaster Jamaica has ever faced, resulting in widespread flooding and destruction from St. Elizabeth to Montego Bay.

In response, Talkpool is mobilizing specialized recovery teams to assist Digicel in rapidly repairing and stabilizing its mobile telephony and fiber-optic networks. These efforts will help restore essential communication services that are critical for emergency response, business continuity, and national recovery.

Talkpool has been a trusted service partner of Digicel since 2006 and has a proven track record of supporting post-disaster network restoration. The company previously helped Digicel and other major operators such as AT&T rebuild their networks after numerous hurricanes and the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

"Connectivity is the backbone of recovery," said Erik Strömstedt, CEO Talkpool. "We're proud to stand with Digicel and the people of Jamaica in rebuilding stronger, more resilient communications infrastructure for the future."
