Orviglance is a novel contrast agent for MR-Imaging developed to improve the detecting and visualization of focal liver lesions (Including liver metastases – and primary tumors) in patients with reduced kidney function. BioPorto is a Danish in-vitro diagnostics company with headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark. The company was founded in 2000. BioPorto has one marketed product, the NGAL test, for early diagnosis of acute kidney injury (AKI), which is commercially available in Europe, Canada, Asia, and Israel.

It has received breakthrough designation from the FDA for AKI in the pediatric indication, for which it is currently conducting data analysis following the completion of enrollment of patients for its Phase 3 study which will lead to an expected application to FDA. Future plans include further FDA submission for adult indication as well as other markets.

Gubra is a pharmaceutical company. The company's operations are focused on the early stages of drug development. They primarily conduct research and development in the area of metabolic and fibrotic diseases. The company's product portfolio includes several brands and drugs, and the operations are conducted on a global level, with the largest presence in North America and the Nordic region. The headquarters are located in Hørsholm, Denmark.

Curasight is a Danish biotech company focusing on developing and improving the detection and treatment of cancer in a more gentle and efficient way. The company has two pipeline products that both use radionuclide (nuclear medicine) to facilitate better diagnosis and treatment of various cancer types; uTRACE use the so-called uPAR as a biomarker to diagnose the aggressiveness of cancer, and uTREAT use the uPAR as a attachment to treat the cancer.

Based on good phase 2 data that has already been collected or will be in the first half of 2022, Curasight is expected to prepare phase 3 for uTRACE later in 2022 and 2023 for the following four cancer types: prostate, brain, neuroendocrine, and head and neck cancer.

A strong finish to the year managed to secure a positive return for BioTech stocks in 2023 &ndash; the first in three years. The actual return was a decent 7,6 percent for the broader S&amp;P BioTech index and a slightly higher 12,9 percent for the Mermaid Index, but those returns cannot hide the fact that 2023 was another lackluster year for BioTech and Life Science investors when compared to the stock market in general as BioTech and Life Science stocks (using S&amp;P Biotech index) markedly underperformed MSCI All Countries by 10,4 percent. Adding the returns &ndash; or lack thereof! - from 2021 and 2022, a combined underperformance of more than 40 percent for the S&amp;P BioTech index in the last three years probably better reflect the general negative investor sentiment with respect to BioTech and Life Science stocks as we enter 2024.
