Elliptic Laboratories operates in the technology industry. The company specializes in the development of sensor systems. The software is proprietary and is used primarily for mobile devices and applications. Customers consist of small and medium-sized business customers operating in several sectors. In addition to the main business, various value-added services and consulting are also offered. The largest operations are found in the North American market.

I must come here to comment on my own experiences (at least I believe) with the company’s product. Some time ago, we got Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon laptops at work, where, as far as I understand, the function that checks if you are in front of the screen is by Elliptic (correct me if I’m wrong?). It didn’t even take a week for the younger “tech-savvy” employees to disable the function. The reason was that the “smart” feature didn’t understand if you were sitting still in front of the laptop, but instead locked the screen. A couple more weeks, and IT turned it off for everyone. If the laptop was docked and the user kept the lid closed, this function didn’t tolerate that either, but immediately locked the screen as soon as the time was up. It’s hard to see how the user experience wouldn’t be “global.” Of course, it’s possible that the function can be fixed with software, but since it’s already disabled by users, its “reputation” won’t be able to recover. And if customers are not pleased with the function, is there some kind of threat that Lenovo will abandon the functionality in future devices?

Apparently, it wasn’t the first time that announcements conveniently landed on the board just before a sale. Recently, Verve Group’s (that Swedish brother-share-ad-bumtsibum) reputation is said to have taken a hit due to a surprise share issue and delays in system integration. However, the CEO of that company keeps buying shares with significant sums, thus signaling strong faith in the company. In contrast, Laila’s surprise sale is akin to pulling the rug out from under the company’s reputation. With this information, I can’t really even comprehend how bad and, above all, brazen a move the sale was at this stage, unless Laila is leaving. A smart person knows very well how such a maneuver will look and how it will be interpreted. Now, however, the message has been sent, and quite a few owners heard it. If no more information emerges from somewhere, I can’t really interpret this any other way than how it looks. I guess I’ll really have to twist the knife in the wound and go for a run to listen to the Q2 webcast and Bors Morgen’s interview. After that, @PenttiHirvonen for a beer? I bet we’d be pretty much on the same wavelength regarding the company.

A couple of things are on my mind regarding this: Did the company’s best selling point get lost when Apple was forced to open its ecosystem? I personally think that the case partly faded because of that, and I sold my shares for this reason, as I wrote. Cash situation. The company likely has credit readily available, and of course, the cash cannot be allowed to drop too low. Is there a plan to use credit or some other arrangement that is not favorable to the company?

Yeah, this message really hit home. Fortunately, I don’t have much of this, but half of that will be gone today. In itself, there are now agreements with Lenovo, and one would imagine that efforts could be directed towards other customers or potential customers. That Q&A was really Niilo22-level answering, so I might not bother listening to Bors Morgen, but I do like beer.
