At Airspace World in Lisbon this week, AVTECH, together with the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub (EIH) and Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre (MUAC), will demonstrate how operational data from AVTECH’s ClearPath optimisation service can support better decision-making in the air traffic controller environment.
As part of the MUAC EFB Intent Gateway for En-Route Operations (EIGER) project, AVTECH’s ClearPath data has been integrated into MUAC’s information system for use by air traffic controllers. The demo will show how connected aircraft data and operational preferences can be presented in the ATC working environment to provide additional context, support more informed decisions, and help reduce workload related to voice and radio exchanges.
The Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) is becoming an important enabler for enhanced data sharing between the cockpit and ATC, supporting a more connected, predictable and efficient network. Early use cases include the exchange of pilot intent and other non-safety-critical information, improving situational awareness and reducing reliance on voice communications — for example by sharing optimal flight levels to support more efficient trajectories and reduce ATCO workload.
Through collaborations with NM, EIH and AVTECH, MUAC is conducting background research to explore the development of an open interface for the bi-directional exchange of information between the cockpit and ATC. Such technology would be designed to complement existing certified data services such as ADS-C. This work will help inform the future application of EFB capabilities within the new TBO project of SESAR.
