Yes please, this, but for real. The 3D models used in Paradox’s new games are extremely ugly and age poorly in games where the graphics should be acceptable for the next 5–10 years. The beautiful 2D images previously used in older games are timeless:   I would honestly rather look at that AI-sloppiness than an average Paradox 3D model.

Paradox released its annual report today. A clear read, not much new for forum regulars, but always worth a look.  A few highlights. Games have certainly been played. Every year, some miscellaneous data is listed in the annual report.   Employee turnover dropped to 8%. The turnover in 2024 (14.5%) was likely increased by the closure of the expensive California studio. Paradox’s studios are not large. For example, EU V is being developed in Barcelona by Tinto, and according to the annual report, there have been an average of 35 employees in Spain. Of course, large games certainly involve subcontracting, and perhaps someone from Stockholm also helps out. But it’s a different matter to develop a game for five years with a team of ~30 people than with AAA game teams of >300 people.  In the Netherlands, the Age of Wonders series is developed by Triumph, with 43 people. Or, for example, in Paris, Playrion’s studio is developing various flight simulator games. In Finland, there’s Iceflake in Tampere, which got to develop Cities Skylines II starting from the turn of the year.
