Freemelt receives order for Freemelt ONE from NC State University

Freemelt Holding

Freemelt has received an additional order from the Center for Additive Manufacturing and Logistics (CAMAL) at North Carolina State University (NC State University) for the Freemelt ONE research machine. The machine will be used for advanced materials research and application development of new critical materials. The order value is approximately SEK 3.3 million, with expected delivery in the second quarter of 2025.

CAMAL at NC State University is recognized as one of the leading U.S. institutes within additive manufacturing (AM). CAMAL fosters collaboration between academia, industry, and the public sector to drive innovation and increase U.S. competitiveness. In January 2025, Freemelt and CAMAL established a joint Application Center to support industrial customers with development projects aiming to establish serial production using Freemelt’s industrial machine, eMELT. The Application Center also serves as a hub for sensitive application development conducted by CAMAL on behalf of Freemelt. The Application Center was officially launched in the first quarter of 2025, starting with a feasibility study connected to the order Freemelt received from a U.S. industrial customer on October 14, 2024. The development projects conducted at the center primarily focus on refractory metals for critical defense and energy applications, with funding from industrial companies, the U.S. government, and agencies such as the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

The current order is CAMAL’s second purchase of a Freemelt ONE machine, with the first delivery completed in 2023. The collaboration with CAMAL is strategically important for Freemelt’s commercialization efforts in the U.S. market. The agreement also includes an option to upgrade to an eMELT industrial machine during 2026.

About Us

Freemelt develops advanced 3D printers for metal components and aims to become the leading supplier in additive manufacturing (AM) using E-PBF technology, targeting SEK 1 billion in revenue by 2030. The solutions primarily support companies in the defense, energy, and medical technology sectors in Europe and the USA, enabling them to drive innovation and improve production efficiency.
Founded in 2017, Freemelt has expanded its product portfolio to include three printer models, with two designed for industrial production and one (Freemelt ONE) targeting research institutes and universities. The modular industrial printers (eMELT) leverage E-PBF technology, delivering significantly higher efficiency compared to other machines on the market while maintaining flexibility in metal selection.
Freemelt generates revenue primarily through the sale of advanced 3D printers at fixed prices, complemented by support and maintenance services, which are expected to account for 25% of total revenue by 2030.
The company is now focused on further industrializing its product and service portfolio and driving commercialization in the European and North American markets. Read more at www.freemelt.com
