NKT supports AKEA with new power connections for data centre developments in Denmark

NKT

NKT has partnered with Swedish infrastructure specialist AKEA to establish reliable power connections for three new data centre sites in Greater Copenhagen, Denmark. The projects underline NKT's strong capability in delivering turnkey power cable systems that enable the expansion of digital infrastructure.

Driven by cloud computing, artificial intelligence and the growing digitalisation of society, electricity demand from data centres in Europe is expected to increase significantly in the coming years. This growing demand underscores the need for robust power infrastructure and reliable power cable systems to ensure stable and efficient power connections. Data centres may power the digital world, but behind reliable data centre connections is the electricity infrastructure that keeps it running.

- Data centres are becoming critical components of modern infrastructure, and that places high expectations on every part of the value chain. NKT's strong engineering capabilities and commitment to timely execution have made them a trusted partner for us. Together, we have delivered reliable grid connections that will support the region's increasing digital-infrastructure needs, says Emilie Condrup, CEO at AKEA.

The three data centre developments each required a dedicated underground cable route to connect the facilities to the public grid at either 50 kV or 132 kV, ensuring a stable and future-proof electricity supply. Across the projects, NKT delivered a combined scope of power cables, accessories, installation works, commissioning activities and project management.

- The rapid expansion of data centres is a key part of the digital transformation, but it also places new demands on the power grid. We are pleased to bring our combined expertise from across NKT to secure reliable and high-quality power infrastructure for AKEA's developments in Denmark, says Carlos Fernandez, Executive Vice President, Head of Distribution in NKT.

With this collaboration, NKT further strengthens its position as a trusted partner in connecting mission-critical infrastructure across Denmark and Europe. Investments at NKT's sites in Denmark and Portugal to expand medium-voltage power cable capabilities and capacity are expected to come online this year, increasing its ability to support the strengthening of Europe's power infrastructure.
