Nordea is a banking company. The company offers a range of financial services, aimed at both private and corporate customers, including traditional asset management, loan financing and pension savings. In addition, it also offers advice and security insurance, as well as currency management. Nordea has the largest operations in the Nordic and Baltic countries. The company was founded in 1997 and its headquarters are located in Helsinki.

I would note, however, that reducing the number of shares makes it easier to reach that 2 euro earnings per share. Surely the reduction in the share base has been taken into account when forecasts were made.

And if we were to refrain from buying now because the share price is high, that would indicate that the company’s management does not believe in its own goals. Nordea’s goal is an EPS of 2 euros in 2030. It is certainly worth buying at current prices if that goal is realized.

I have never understood why these share buybacks would even be attempted to be timed to lower prices. They just stubbornly buy when the program starts, no matter the cost. And the same seems to apply to most companies.

Welcome to a larger ownership stake! It’s just a shame that the price at these levels “feels” very expensive. Now the average purchase prices of previous programs are starting to look like bargain prices… Still, I gladly take these share buybacks alongside dividends as a profit distribution method. Both are better.

Kassu has commented on Nordea’s share buybacks.   Nordea announced on Tuesday that it had received approval from the European Central Bank for share buybacks and would launch a buyback program of up to EUR 500 million. The program is in line with the company’s capital policy and our dividend forecasts. The program will start on December 18, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter, and will end no later than May 8, 2026. That comes at least from the Companies Act, that a public limited company cannot make a decision that would result in it holding more than 10 percent of its own shares.

The General Meeting 2025 authorized the purchase of a maximum of 340 million shares for the purpose of optimizing the capital structure. Of this, 19 million shares have been used in the program started in June and 16 million shares in the program started in October. Thus, just over 300 million shares of authorization remain, although, of course, the euros will not be sufficient for the maximum amount.
