Peab builds homes and retail space in Umeå

PEAB BPress release16.09.2026 klo 09.00

Peab has been commissioned to build housing and retail space in the new city district Hagaliden in Umeå. The customers are Bonava Hagamarket AB and Bonava Sverige AB and the total contract amount is SEK 121 million.

The project consists of two separate turnkey contracts. One of the contracts comprises the construction of a grocery store for Coop where Bonava Hagamarket AB is the customer. The second contract is for Brf Motorn where Bonava Sverige AB is the customer. This contract comprises two tower blocks with a total of 45 tenant-owner apartments and a terraced courtyard on top of the Coop store as well as the surrounding landscape and parking areas on the ground floor.

"This is a strategically important project for us where we, together with Bonava, are involved in developing a completely new city district from the ground up. With our experience in both housing and commercial projects we can contribute to efficient implementation and a sustainable end result," says Susanne Hallberg, Region Manager Peab.

The apartments will be certified according to The Swan, version 4. The project is the first in the new Hagaliden district where a former car dealership area will be transformed into a new residential area with a focus on sustainability, local services and a good living environment.

"We see a stable demand for new housing in central Umeå, and Brf Motorn meets that need with an effective and attractive offer. The project has a good commercial basis while contributing to the development of a completely new city district," says Michael Björklund, CEO of Bonava Sweden.

Planning has been underway since the beginning of June 2026. Construction of Coop and Brf Motorn is planned to start in September 2026 with completion in May 2028. The project also includes a future option for a second phase, Brf Cylindern.

The project will be order registered in business area Construction in the third quarter 2026.
