In previous posts, I complained about Faron’s lax use of money on bonuses etc., so let’s give some “positives” for choosing Parexel as the CRO. This is a good example of exactly what is worth investing in right now.

Parexel is also known for its collaborations with Big Pharma. It’s certainly not among the cheapest, but they must maintain high quality because of their reputation. The FDA also scrutinizes the collected data, and you don’t want to get on their bad side. A CRO would lose its reputation, and ultimately, the sponsor is responsible for the data. Money buys the service, but they don’t take on projects doomed to fail due to the aforementioned reputation and project risk management. Europe and North America. What is missing? Asia, and adding it at this stage would have brought additional costs. Currently, dose definition is still underway, as is the search for a preliminary efficacy signal. Juho mentioned that they might do an open-label randomized trial, but that seems to have been abandoned in favor of a double-blind study, where neither the patient nor the treating party knows what is being administered. This might be smarter, because if a patient finds out they are receiving “only” aza+placebo, there might be more pressure to try off-label drugs more readily if their condition worsens as cycles accumulate. In that case, the patient would drop out of follow-up earlier, and the data quality would suffer. Asia must be included in Phase 3 if aiming for the global market. There are likely people of Asian descent involved in the US, but they are not in their own environment (diet, specific healthcare characteristics, etc.), so those countries require their own investments.

Looking through the Diamyd Medical thread, the level of skepticism doesn’t seem to be at the same level. EDIT: and it’s great that there is criticism and that it’s being brought up. But it’s a bold statement to say that Clever-1 has nothing to do with cancer. Tomorrow the topic will be covered in a doctoral thesis; surely there’s some connection.

Now we’ve got a good contractor on the job. Could Faron’s research team now work in peace on something new related to current patents? Maija and the others shouldn’t be left idle!
