Nexstim operates in medical technology. The company has developed a non-invasive brain stimulation technology called SmartFocus®. It is a navigated transcranial magnetic stimulation (nTMS) technology with 3D navigation providing targeting of the TMS to the specific area of the brain. The technology is aimed for the treatment of major depression and chronic neuropathic pain. The company was founded in 2000 and has its headquarters in Helsinki.

The thinking behind the second scenario in my speculative comment originates specifically from Brainlab’s interests. Let’s briefly open up this scenario in more detail:  If I were responsible for sales at Brainlab and my target of approximately €4 million in '25 had been achieved. For the next year, '26, I would have an ambitious growth target, say a €4.5-5 million target (Note: A completely speculative figure, which could be higher because in addition to growth, the device-specific price will increase with nbs6 approvals). Then I would certainly think, why would I be in a hurry to close deals in '25, when I absolutely must succeed in selling strongly in '26 as well, or I’ll have to cover the difference from my own pocket for Nexstim. In these scenarios, it can be very well justified to consider timing issues. Especially when we also know that closing '26 deals at the end of '26 is not entirely certain, which year those deals will slip into, or what global crisis will surprise us in '26. Of course, I understand the budget funding comment, that acquisitions are always made for the year for which the buyer has allocated funds. But there are indications of this very thing this year. If I were a public entity living on a tight annual budget, then precisely this year it would be advisable to buy nbs5 earlier than usual (as deals have been seen earlier) with an nbs6 option (cheaper this way, which certainly interests the public sector living on a tight cost discipline), so that they can still order the nbs6 option for the same year (for which the money has been reserved). Buyer candidates could not have known back then in the summer how late in the year the nbs6 announcement would go and whether they would still be able to close the nbs6 funds reserved for '25 with the nbs6 option after that.  This was just one scenario thought. Nothing has come up that would refute this thinking, but also nothing that would confirm it. I myself give this perhaps a 50% probability. It’s also very possible that Brainlab does not want to inform the public of its exact sales figures. The numbers and Mikko’s interviews will tell the truth in due course. My own stance on the company’s progress in the right direction has not changed, even though the press releases, which are scarcer than my own expectations, make me wonder. I wish the company all the best. A separate issue is how many nbs6 updates/options the company has had in the pipeline and will be able to deliver by the end of the year. These will probably also generate a good boost in sales for the end of '25, although they probably won’t be announced.

I had my first treatment on a Thursday and my second treatment the following day. I had painkillers with me because I take them so often, but I didn’t actually take them, she says. After a few treatments, the stabbing pain disappeared completely. The pressing pain and the pain when touched are still there, but she can now live without the medication she used to depend on.  It’s fantastic. I’m clearer in my head. I’m not as tired. The medicine made me lethargic and gained weight. Now I’ve got my energy back, says Dorte Michelsen Jessen.

New Advanced Treatment for Depression, OCD, Pain, and Stroke in Denmark A completely new and advanced form of treatment using targeted magnetic therapy is designed to help patients suffering from depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, pain, and mild post-stroke symptoms. The new advanced device, Nexstim, has just arrived at Privathospitalet Mølholm as the first facility in Denmark. The treatment has a documented effect on depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, neurogenic pain, and milder post-stroke consequences. A special feature of this device is that it uses repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and computer-guided navigation to provide highly precise treatment with small electric fields exactly where the effect is greatest. This has not been seen before in Denmark. Precise and Targeted Treatment  The treatment is a non-pharmacological solution that treats only the affected areas of the brain and thus does not affect the rest of the body. And this is precisely what makes the treatment incredibly unique, explains Professor of Neurosurgery and Specialist Doctor Frantz Rom Poulsen. “Until now, we have only seen technology that provides whole-brain magnetic stimulation, which can lead to more side effects and not nearly as great an effect as the new navigated form of treatment. Nexstim is advanced technology that treats with great precision exactly the brain center where the effect is targeted,” he says. 3D Brain Imaging and Computer-Guided Navigation  The device utilizes the latest scientific research and uses 3D brain imaging based on MRI scans of the brain. With computer-guided navigation, rTMS can precisely target treatments to the part of your brain where they are needed. For example, in the treatment of depression, to the emotional and mood center. This area is incredibly small, and doctors call it the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) – one of the most connected areas of the brain. Depending on the condition being treated, advanced devices can be precisely adjusted to stimulate exactly those brain centers where the effect is targeted, and thus where the greatest effect is achieved. 10–30 Treatment Sessions  The number of treatment sessions depends on the patient and how much the brain responds to the treatment. The first session lasts approximately 45 minutes, followed by an expected 10–30 sessions of approximately 20 minutes each. The targeted treatment was originally developed in Finland, where it has been researched and further developed in recent years into an advanced technology proven to be effective and safe. The treatment is performed and supervised by neurosurgery specialists, and so far, the treatment is only available in Vejle. About Repetitive Navigated Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS)  The treatment uses targeted neuronavigation-guided transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), which provides precise treatment with small electric fields for treatment-resistant pain, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and late effects of stroke. Utilizing the latest science, the device uses 3D brain imaging based on MRI scans of the brain. In a large patient study involving over 400 individuals suffering from depression, results showed that 76% of patients experienced clinical improvement and 50% achieved complete remission, meaning no or almost no depressive symptoms after rTMS treatment. The average depression score for patients decreased from 21 to 6.6 on the PHQ-9 scale. There is strong scientific evidence for the treatment of chronic, unilateral neuropathic pain. Several studies have shown positive effects of rTMS treatment on obsessive-compulsive disorder and can improve motor functions, speech, swallowing functions, and mood in stroke patients. The first treatment session lasts 45 minutes, followed by an expected 10–30 sessions of approximately 20 minutes each. The treatment takes place comfortably while you are seated in a chair. A TMS device is placed against your head. This morning’s announcement, in my opinion, only confirms once again that Nexstim only announces deals from its own pipeline, which therefore includes therapy, research, and Finland. Diagnostic deals have completely disappeared from announcements since September (that too was NBS5+, which was certainly still clearing out the old sales pipeline..)

It has also been separately noted many times regarding Brainlab deals that it takes several years before a deal starts to operate at the desired level. From the first contact to closing a deal, it takes an average of 18 months, and Brainlab’s sales team only started training this spring. It is therefore entirely possible that no deals have simply had time to materialize through Brainlab yet.

The reported device is a therapy machine, meaning it is not a Brainlab sale. In my opinion, no unambiguous conclusions can still be drawn from that, other than that Brainlab sales have still not been reported as understood.

You can forget about that rumor about shops not reporting. A rough November and early December is a fact. Could this now kick off a similar spurt as in the summer? Do we have enough days for Inderes’ forecast? Did anyone have the reported vs Inderes’ forecast in Excel?
