Rejlers to upgrade Northern Lights CO₂ quality monitoring system in Norway

Rejlers

Rejlers has been tasked by Equinor ASA on behalf of Northern Lights JV DA with developing an integrated solution for the new CO₂ quality monitoring system into existing facilities for Northern Lights' CO₂ storage facility. The project will begin with a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) study aimed at evaluating and planning the replacement of the current CO₂ quality monitoring system. An option for the subsequent Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) phase is included, meaning Rejlers may also be responsible for the execution and installation of the new system.

The new CO₂ quality monitoring system will ensure that the necessary parameters comply with the needs of the facilities, which is essential for optimising and ensuring the integrity of the facility to deliver safe storage of carbon dioxide. Rejlers' team will be responsible for delivering a solution with high quality while minimising disruptions to ongoing operations.

"We are proud to be part of this groundbreaking CO₂ storage project. Our goal is to ensure a smooth transition to the new CO₂ quality monitoring system and contribute to Northern Lights' ambitious climate goals," says Ragnar Holtan, Head of division Industry & Energy at Rejlers in Norway.

Northern Lights is part of Norway's full-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) project, Longship, and is developing the world's first open-source infrastructure for CO₂ transport and storage. The project will enable the safe and permanent storage of carbon dioxide from companies across Europe.

Rejlers' assignment has already begun, with the initial FEED study expected to be completed in the beginning of 2025. Should the EPC phase be activated, the entire upgrade is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025.
