Sotkamo Silver operates in the exploration of natural resources. The main operations are focused silver, gold, and zinc. Aapeli wrote about the silver markets and, among other things, its outlook.  Based on a recent review published by the Silver Institute and Metals Focus, global total silver demand is expected to decline this year from last year’s levels slightly more than previously anticipated. Despite this, the market is expected to remain in deficit. The development of the silver markets has a significant impact on Sotkamo Silver, one of the companies we follow, as we estimate that during the production phase of the Hopeakaivos (Silver Mine), roughly 60–70% of the company’s revenue (depending on metal price ratios) will come from silver. Opinions on its significance certainly vary, and of course, there are other means of engagement (e.g., various performance-based bonus models). However, management/board ownership does provide signal value, and with potential ownership, interests are strongly aligned with those of other shareholders (i.e., skin in the game), and I, for one, interpret ownership in the company as a positive thing. In this regard, however, one should not directly equate it with the final outcome (good/bad, something in between). This topic can certainly be debated, for example, regarding what ownership percentage would be an optimal level from the perspective of other shareholders, and there is probably no direct answer to this due to company-specific differences. Regarding your question about SoSi, I quote from the previous comprehensive report, where it was written as follows (note: the share of the 10 largest is currently just under 15%):

Regarding drilling results, the company reported in Q3 that “Preliminary results are positive”. However, what positive means for a company like Sotkamo is a question mark.

Strong Talvivaara vibes when reading the latest posts; the company is unsure about concentrations and there’s great variation, and mining operations are stalling thanks to various challenges such as bedrock and water. So silver might come at 110g per ton or not, which seems to be the current situation when the price of silver has risen a lot and yet the company issues a profit warning.

The Ore Sorter uses X-Ray Transmission (XRT) technology to scan every feed particle and to identify the relative atomic density differences within particles and then separates desired high-grade particles from the barren material pneumatically. Sorting of marginal ore is done after primary crushing and it is expected to reduce roughly 50% of non-ore material going into the grinding and flotation process. This improves significantly the energy efficiency as less material is grinded and also material efficiency as marginal ore can be exploited and processed to mill feed.
