Good reflections, but if it’s a so-called traditional bank, those kinds of interest rates aren’t generated from the bank’s balance sheet. Margins top out at 5%, and higher risk isn’t even priced in. This could be a Multitude (ex-Ferratum) or a similar new wave bank, in which case the scenario is possible, but often those rates go the other way.

This is exactly why I’m following this so eagerly. Someone or some people there are really trying in earnest, though. The company’s start is difficult, but if it survives this, then at some point (in the distant future) there will be an opportunity for a quick profit.

I’m left wondering about that “average interest rate of financing approximately 5.1% upon fulfillment of the conditions mentioned in the financing commitments.” In other words, when the covenants are met. And these covenants can be quite strict. Otherwise, it’s risk capital with a high interest rate.

I’ve been thinking about that average interest rate and I interpret it as these having fixed rates. Since the maturity date was also successfully pushed back to at least July, they were able to write that “the maturity of the financing solution reaches the third quarter of 2026.” I ran some numbers and, with the following assumptions, even an average interest rate of about 5.1% started to seem more sensible from the (bank’s) perspective: 34% of the financing from the bank and 66% from the owners. A fixed 13% interest rate for the bank and a fixed 1% interest rate for the owners. With these assumptions, the average interest rate would be 5.08%. From the bank’s perspective, it’s risk money, and that is also reflected in the pricing. The owners are in a tight spot and are providing the loan to get a bit more time to sell their holdings on the exchange. I suspect we’ll soon see announcements again stating that the board has waived the lock-ups…

This means that a significant price has been paid for the guarantees, which is then not reported. Finnvera’s guarantees can be on market terms, so the guarantee fee can be 3-4% or even more for a company like this. A financial journalist could ask! Every stock market trade needs a seller and a buyer. It’s a wonder that this still has buyers.

What average interest rate? Is it tied to something? Well, then it can’t be reported like this. Fixed would be correct, but typical communication from Summa…

That conditional five million will likely be secured, but some unspecified part of that guarantee limit is conditional on this major deal. Even if that five million comes through, it probably wouldn’t last very long if the confirmation of the big deal were delayed until late H1 2026. At the current burn rate, they would run out of cash by then, and orders would also need to be put into production with some money, requiring even more funding. With no sales coming in, the company is taking on more debt and the goal is slipping further away.
