Tomra Systems is a technology company that develops products for automated returns management. The company's expertise lies in the development of sensor-based solutions. The technology is used in product sorting for deposit systems, sorting of waste and in sorting of ores and minerals in mining. The products are used by several customers in different industries. Tomra Systems was founded in 1972 and is headquartered in Asker, Norway.

Tomra Systems reported first-quarter 2026 results that significantly missed analyst expectations on key metrics, including adjusted EBITA and profit before tax. The Recycling segment faced substantial challenges with a decline in revenue and an operating loss, leading to a EUR 16 million cost-saving program. Despite strong performance in the Collection and Food segments, the overall disappointing figures led to a sharp drop in the company’s share price.   Tomra Systems’ adjusted EBITA for Q1 2026 was EUR 26 million, significantly below the analyst consensus forecast of EUR 39–41.1 million, and its profit before tax was EUR -4 million, falling short of expectations of EUR 25.5 million.   Group revenue was EUR 334 million, an increase of 9% (12% at constant currencies) year-on-year, but it still trailed analyst estimates of EUR 347–349 million.   Stock -22%

I wonder what kind of Trojan horse Tomra just led through the gates  Interesting timing to put out a stock exchange release just a couple of days before the financial statement. Surely this could have been announced on Friday along with the results? In short, it’s about job cuts in the Recycling business unit (approx. 175 jobs), aiming for 16 million euro annual savings and bringing the EBITA margin back above the 20% level by 2027. There is definitely a need for this, as they have fallen quite short of targets and expectations regarding recycling, considering the kind of picture that was painted for the segment at the last CMD a couple of years ago!
