Remedy Entertainment is a game developer. Its operations are primarily focused on the development of action games, with a particular focus on 3D technology. Examples of games that the company has developed include several different versions of Alan Wake, Max Payne, and Control. Remedy also develops its own game engine and tooling technology that powers many of its games. The company was founded in 1995 and is headquartered in Espoo, Finland.

Gaudechon spent over 15 years at EA across two stints at the U.S. publisher, where he assumed profit and loss responsibility for the group’s operations in Asia and prior to that served as studio head and executive producer at EA’s free-to-play studio in Stockholm. During his time at EA, Gaudechon helped steer live-service operations for titles such as FIFA Mobile and Battlefield Heroes.                                                 This guy would have been an excellent choice back when Vanguard was still being moved forward. Perhaps a F2P microtransaction man as CEO will help shake up Remedy’s stagnant culture and create significant value for investors by taking game monetization to the next level. A surprising choice. It is a plus, however, that they went with an international recruit. In the release, there is a clear communicative effort to anticipate the concerns of both investors and players regarding the selection. The release is quite down-to-earth by Finnish standards, and in my opinion, this is definitely the right choice, considering the new CEO’s background and the concerns related to the selection. Well communicated.  Note how the player is prioritized and the order of player vs. other stakeholders.  To create sustainable value for our players, our partners, and our shareholders”   We will stay close to the players, earning their time and trust   They want to communicate that it won’t affect the creative side  I am committed to protecting what makes it unique, bringing exceptional games to the market   Not a very typical part of a new CEO appointment release.  I will be moving to Finland with my family.  The word independence is also used frequently throughout the release. It’s hard to draw any far-reaching conclusions about this choice yet. Need to chew on it more and hopefully hear from JC himself in tomorrow’s webcast and hopefully also in the Inderes interview.

So, could relationships with Asian markets have been a major factor in the selection process? The reaction on various forums has been largely negative, so a bit of optimism for balance: in a best-case scenario, the new CEO won’t interfere with the content of creative work but instead focuses on finding new channels and markets where the content can reach people.

Yep, the gaming-side expertise doesn’t immediately impress, but the guy seems to have quite a lot of experience in the Asian markets. It’s been mentioned quite often lately that there are increasing efforts to sell games in that direction. Let’s see if we hear more of the reasoning for the choice tomorrow.

Yay, we’re getting microtransactions and NFTs in Remedy’s games.  After all, the guy worked on FIFA, among other things, and his latest stint was as the CEO of an NFT company. JC stated just a couple of years ago that “web3 is the future of sports and gaming”.  A strange choice.
