Oriola is a pharmaceutical group with a particular focus on the distribution of pharmaceuticals to other players in the industry. The company offers services to pharmacies and other pharmaceutical companies, which includes, for example, negotiations with suppliers and distribution of products. The largest operations are in the Nordic and Baltic regions. The headquarters are located in Espoo.

Here are Rauli’s comments regarding Oriola’s Capital Markets Day yesterday.  Oriola already announced its new financial targets in connection with the Q1 results, which were presented yesterday at the Capital Markets Day. In our view, the targets rely heavily on the company’s IT system and warehouse investments, which will not be completed until 2027 and 2028. Thus, we believe the targeted efficiency and profit improvements will be weighted toward the end of the period lasting until 2029. Regarding the associate company Kronans, the company stated clearly that its profitability must improve before Oriola can consider selling its stake. This will still take several years, and we therefore do not expect a quick solution regarding Kronans. Here are Rauli’s pre-event comments regarding Oriola’s CMD festivities to be held on May 12th  Oriola already announced its new financial targets in connection with the Q1 results, which will be further presented at the Capital Markets Day on May 12th. We would particularly seek clarity on the company structure (potential sale of the associated company Kronans), but we do not expect news in this regard at the Capital Markets Day. Concrete plans to improve the company’s profitability and to support the weak equity ratio are also areas of interest for us. There have been changes in the ownership of the Swedish pharmacy company half-owned by Oriola. The Lithuanian owner of the other half has sold its stake in the Swedish pharmacy company from the Euroapotheca Group, which operated pharmacy activities, to another group company. Euroapotheca retained the Baltic pharmacy operations, and the ownership of the Swedish pharmacy company it held has been transferred to a Dutch holding company of the Lithuanian group’s parent company. Following these arrangements, this holding company also includes the Lithuanian group parent company’s grocery store businesses in Poland and Bulgaria. Based on the companies’ financial statements and announcements, the price for the half-stake in the Swedish pharmacy company in the transaction was approximately 200 million euros, which is at the same level as the value of the half-share of the pharmacy company on Oriola’s balance sheet. Everyone can evaluate in their own silos whether the Lithuanian group’s internal transaction was made at fair value. In this case, the fair value of the purchase price, 200 million euros, is supported by the fact that when determining the purchase price, factors such as financiers’ assessments and the requirements of both the Lithuanian and Dutch tax authorities had to be taken into account. Selling assets at a potential overprice from Lithuania to the Netherlands, thereby realizing potential future losses in a Dutch holding company, would also be an unusual operating model. On these grounds, it can be reasonably estimated that the fair value of Oriola’s ownership stake in the Swedish pharmacy company would also be 200 million euros.

Here are Evli’s thoughts on Oriola.   Oriola started of the year with a lower-than-expected improvement in adj. EBITDA due to performance of the advisory business and elevated group costs, but we expect performance to pick up during the year.   ACCUMULATE with a target price of EUR 1.0 With our estimates fairly intact, we retain our target price of EUR 1.0 and ACCUMULATE-rating. Our SOTP-model equity value is down to EUR 1.31 (1.54), mostly due to net debt, affected by timing of changes in working capital. Rauli has written a new company report on Oriola following the Q1 results  Oriola’s Q1 result improved from the comparison period but fell short of our estimates. The company reiterated its positive full-year guidance, but our estimate decreased especially regarding the joint venture Kronans. We see value in the company, but also significant risks for the coming years. We reiterate our Accumulate recommendation and EUR 1.1 target price. Here are Rauli’s quick comments on Oriola’s Q1 result.  Oriola’s adj. EBITDA improved from the comparison period but fell short of our expectations. The result of the associate company Kronans continued to be loss-making and was also weaker than our expectations. As expected, the company reiterated its guidance for an improving full-year adj. EBITDA. The company also announced new financial targets, which will be presented in two weeks at the Capital Markets Day. The result puts slight downward pressure on our forecasts.
