Xplora Technologies AS is a Norwegian based company that develops and sells smartwatches designed to safely onboard children to the digital world. Xplora Technologies was listed on the Euronext Growth Oslo market in Nov 2020. Xplora Technologies gives parents the confidence to allow their children to play freely outside by providing connectivity and additional safety solutions whilst simultaneously incentivising physical activity and engagement with ESG initiatives through its digital Goplay platform. Together with producing and selling hardware Xplora Technologies generates recurring revenues from value-adding services and connectivity referred to as the Xplora Service Platform. Xplora also extends third-party licenses of the service platform to other smart devices producers, further extending upselling capabilities.

This varies by region. In some regions, even smartwatch phones must be kept in backpacks. On the other hand, this is a bit of a Finnish phenomenon. In German-speaking Central Europe, the prevalence of phones among children is remarkably low. In Germany and Switzerland, some children feel they have no use for a phone. My Swiss friend’s child received a phone at age 13 and brought it back on the third day, wanting to return it. They claim that German TikTok apparently gets filled with far-right content very quickly, at least for child profiles.

The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare’s (THL) new digital recommendations do not recommend smartphones for children under 13, suggesting at most phones with limited features. This could benefit Xplora’s bottom line, at least to some extent. There is no information regarding recommendations in other Nordic countries. My own child is in first grade, and smartphones are not allowed at school. I don’t know how this is monitored, or if they can still be kept in a backpack? But a smartwatch phone is allowed on the wrist.

Q3 results are out. Quarterly revenue exceeded half a billion (NOK) for the first time. And according to the CEO, “the senior and youth market is only in its early stages.”  Xplora Q3 25 Surpassed half a billion in quarterly revenue, with record-high EBITDA Xplora Technologies Oslo, 26 November 2025 – Xplora Technologies AS (“Xplora”) today published its results for the third quarter 2025. Revenue in Q3 2025 more than doubled to NOK 510m, exceeding half a billion for the first time in a single quarter. EBITDA came in at NOK 72m in the quarter. “We report a solid year-on-year increase of 36% in our subscription base reaching a total subscription base of 443k. This yielded a 19% increase in service revenue to NOK 90m, corresponding to an ARR of NOK 358m” says CEO Sten Kirkbak. “With the Senior and Youth markets still in the early stages, the subscription opportunities are significant”, Kirkbak adds. Gross margin increased to 52% in the quarter, supported by the introduction of new product series with lower cost of goods sold and channel optimization, generating a 122% year-on-year increase in gross profit to NOK 263m. EBITDA increased by 133% to NOK 72m, corresponding with an EBITDA-margin of 14%. Year-to-date (YTD) 2025, group revenues reached NOK 1.3b, up 135% from the same period last year. Gross profit YTD was NOK 685m, a year-on-year increase of 146%, whereas EBITDA increased by 169% to NOK 140m. “With our strong performance in Q3 and year-to-date, we have established a solid foundation for continued growth and expansion. At today’s Capital Markets Day, we will demonstrate how we intend to leverage these opportunities as we progress toward—and beyond—one million subscriptions,” says Kirkbak. Building on this momentum, the roadmap and growth opportunities we will present at today’s CMD, and to support our long-term capital markets strategy, the board of directors of Xplora has decided to initiate a process for analysing alternatives for an uplisting from Euronext Growth to Oslo Stock Exchange, Nasdaq Stockholm or another regulated marketplace. The ambitions are that the process is completed within 12 months, subject to prevailing market conditions and regulatory approvals.

Hopefully, a comparison of the HMD Fusion X1 with the Xplora app would be published, for example, to the regular Fusion with Google Family Link. The Fusion X1 with Xplora’s guardian app has been marketed as not having pre-installed programs, but rather that the activation of all of them can be monitored through the guardian app. Contacts (calls and SMS) are also managed with the guardian app. I personally don’t really know Family Link, but I’ve understood that children learn to bypass it. From Xplora’s business perspective, the risk in this HMD offshoot is minimal. The main focus is on the continuous revenue stream from smartwatch phones and the continuous revenue stream from Xplora subscriptions for Doro’s senior phones. I just bought my daughter an Xplora X6 Play, which her siblings already have good experience with. From the perspective of my personal finances, I was disappointed, and as an investor, I purred with satisfaction when I failed to circumvent Xplora’s service fees with a 5-euro Telia prepaid card. With that subscription, adding the watch would have required paying a 9€ monthly fee to Xplora. I ultimately ended up pouring my money into Xplora’s coffers and took their own subscription for 9€/month with a 12-month upfront payment.

That phone made with HMD is indeed interesting, because it allows for very detailed customization of the child’s phone’s content. Our child is 8 years old and has managed the first two grades with a smartwatch phone. Now all friends have mobile phones, so the child will likely get a phone as a 9th birthday present. That Fusion X1 is certainly high on the list of options, although the monthly price of 5.99 euros for the app to be acquired by parents sounds quite high. On the other hand, I would like to decide what apps go on the child’s phone, and completely block browser access, so maybe it’s worth that money. Or can these be restricted in other ways, e.g., through Google’s own parental control features?

Xplora has acquired Emporia, the leading provider of senior mobile phones in the DACH region, enhancing its established presence in the Nordics, UK, and France following its previous acquisition of Doro. Emporia sells over 300,000 devices annually, representing a 25-30% increase in device sales within the senior segment. The transaction price remains undisclosed but is expected to be funded from current resources (NOK 423m in cash by Q4 2025), with completion anticipated in Q2 2026. Based on comparable valuation metrics used for the Doro acquisition, we estimate a purchase price of NOK 250-300m. Xplora plans to leverage Emporia’s established hardware footprint by integrating it with Xplora’s subscription platform and MVNO capabilities, where we expect MVNO operations are likely to launch in Austria and Switzerland in the near future (existing MVNO in Germany). The Emporia acquisition strategically complements Xplora’s current business and expands the subscriber potential in the senior segment by 25-30%, where we expect the share to be up  today.
