Konecranes Oyj: APM Terminals Elizabeth orders 34 Konecranes Electric Rubber-Tired Gantry cranes

KCRPressmeddelande18.08.2026 klo 14.00
Discuss

APM Terminals Elizabeth has signed an agreement with Konecranes for boosting terminal operations with electric Rubber-Tired Gantry (E-RTG) cranes as part of a broader modernization program at the Port of New York and New Jersey. The agreement covers 34 E-RTGs with an option for six additional cranes. The order was booked in Q2/2026 and the deliveries will be completed by the end of 2028.

The investment will support APM Terminals Elizabeth as it prepares for future growth at one of North Americas busiest container terminals. The new E-RTG fleet is intended to strengthen yard capacity, improve operational reliability and support a more efficient, electrified terminal operations. The RTGs are fully powered by onboard battery packs.

"As we continue investing in the development of our terminal, we are focused on solutions that support efficient container flows, reliable day-to-day operations, and the flexibility to meet future demand," said Henrik Kristensen, Managing Director of APM Terminals Elizabeth. "These cranes will support a safer operating environment, provide opportunities for skill development, and help ensure we have the capabilities needed to serve customers for years to come."

"Today's signing reflects the future of this important gateway and our commitment to supporting APM Terminals Elizabeth as it modernizes its operations. Our partnership spans more than 20 years, and we are proud that some of the first cranes we delivered here continue to serve the terminal today. We appreciate the trust APM Terminals has placed in us and look forward to delivering the next chapter of our partnership safely and reliably", says Mikko Lepistö, Senior Vice President, Konecranes.

The E-RTGs will be deployed across the terminal yard to support container handling operations with proven electrified crane technology. The investment forms part of APM Terminals Elizabeth's broader modernization program and will help prepare the terminal for future operational requirements.

This order is a showcase of Ecolifting, Konecranes' comprehensive step-by-step roadmap to zero tailpipe emissions that supports the decarbonization of port operations.
