Finnair Traffic Performance in July 2025

Finnair

Finnair Plc               Investor News               7 August 2025 at 9:00 a.m. EEST

Well above one million passengers, regularity back at a high level after the end of industrial action - cargo volumes declined

In July, Finnair carried 1,137,800 passengers, which was 2.0% fewer than in July 2024. Passenger numbers saw good growth in North Atlantic and Asian traffic but declined in European, Middle Eastern and Domestic traffic. Finnair returned to normal operations after the end of industrial action in early July, and this resulted in regularity returning to the high level of over 99% for the remainder of the month.

Overall capacity, measured in available seat kilometres (ASK), increased by 2.0%. Capacity grew significantly in North Atlantic and Asian traffic, driven by added frequencies to Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago and Dallas in the U.S., Osaka and Nagoya in Japan as well as Shanghai in China. In Middle Eastern traffic, ASKs decreased due to the end of cooperation with Qatar Airways on flights between Stockholm, Copenhagen and Doha on 15 January 2025. In Domestic traffic, capacity decreased due to cut frequencies to Lapland. Capacity decreased slightly also in European traffic. Including wet lease outs, overall capacity remained stable.

Finnair's traffic, measured in revenue passenger kilometres (RPK), increased by 1.2%. RPKs saw growth in North Atlantic and Asian traffic, while remaining stable in European traffic and declining in Middle Eastern and Domestic traffic.

Passenger load factor (PLF) declined by 0.6% points to 82.9%. PLF improved in Middle Eastern and European traffic but declined in North Atlantic, Domestic and Asian traffic.

Total cargo tonnes declined by 12.7%, driven by a decline in Middle Eastern, European and Asian cargo traffic. Revenue cargo tonne kilometres declined by 9.3%.

In July, 75.8% of all Finnair flights arrived on schedule compared to 75.2% in the comparison period.

Traffic statistics for August 2025 will be published on Friday 5 September 2025.

  • Passenger load factor (PLF): Share of revenue passenger kilometres of available seat kilometres
  • Available tonne kilometres: Number of tonnes of capacity for carriage of passengers, cargo and mail × great circle distance in kilometres
  • Revenue tonne kilometres: Total revenue load consisting of passengers, cargo and mail × great circle distance in kilometres

The reported distance-based traffic figures do not consider longer routings caused by airspace closures but are based on the great-circle distance in accordance with the industry practice.
