46 Kempower Satellites will power DP World Vancouver, Fraser Surrey and Prince Rupert terminals during first phase of partnership.
Kempower, a leading provider of DC fast-charging solutions for electric vehicles, has signed a framework agreement with DP World, a globally leading trade and logistics company and Canada’s largest terminal operator, to supply EV charging infrastructure and related services across all DP World terminals in Canada.
Kempower’s agreement with DP World standardizes charging infrastructure across DP World terminals in Canada. Kempower’s flexible and scalable charging solutions will support the electrification of DP World’s service vehicles and container-handling equipment, while providing a foundation for future electrification projects. The agreement also includes service-level commitments to support the reliable operation and availability of the charging infrastructure.
DP World currently operates five port terminals in Canada – Vancouver, Fraser Surrey, Nanaimo, Prince Rupert and Saint John. Construction of its new Contrecoeur container terminal at the Port of Montreal is underway, with commissioning of the terminal expected by 2030.
In the first phase of the partnership, Kempower will supply a total of 46 Kempower satellites providing a total of 4.4 megawatts of power in Vancouver, Fraser Surrey, and Prince Rupert, with the site in Vancouver being active.
Kempower’s distributed and modular charging infrastructure ensures flexible power distribution with built-in redundancy to guarantee uninterrupted uptime, making it the ideal solution for the operational demands of ports.
“Ports are an essential part of the global supply chain, and reliable charging infrastructure plays an important role in port electrification,” said Kempower North America President Monil Malhotra. “We’re proud to expand our relationship with DP World in Canada by delivering scalable charging solutions to support daily operations and provide the flexibility to grow alongside future transportation needs.”
“Electrifying our terminal operations is an important part of how DP World is building more efficient and resilient supply chains in Canada,” said Doug Smith, CEO, DP World in Canada. “This agreement with Kempower gives us a scalable, reliable charging platform that can support our operations today while creating the flexibility to electrify more of our equipment over time. Standardizing this infrastructure across our Canadian terminals is a practical step toward reducing emissions while maintaining the performance and reliability our customers depend on.”
As the demand for port electrification continues to grow, partnerships with DP World, a global leader in port electrification, demonstrate how scalable charging solutions can help drive cleaner, more efficient operations.
In 2024, Kempower partnered with DP World at the London Gateway logistics hub, where Kempower charging technology supports electric terminal operations.
The frame agreement does not include binding order volumes, so DP World Canada places individual orders according to their own investment plans and needs. Kempower discloses significant orders in accordance with the company’s disclosure policy once such orders have been confirmed.
