The global DC fast charging manufacturer Kempower has partnered with Finnish e-mobility company Plugit to boost EV and e-truck charging infrastructure in the Nordics. With a sales & service partnership agreement signed in January 2026, Plugit will deliver and operate turnkey charging solutions from the design phase through to installation and operations of Kempower’s charging systems, both for its customers and for its own charging sites as charge point operator.

The partnership will see a number of both passenger car and truck charging locations launched over the coming years. 15 sites have already gone live in Finland during the first phases of the collaboration, with a highlight being the installation of Kempower’s first public megawatt charging system (MCS) site in Finland, near the Port of HaminaKotka in Mussalo, Kotka. The focus of new sites will be extending to Sweden during 2026 to help logistic customers across the Nordics to electrify their fleets.

Finland’s first public MCS-enabled site is targeted for trucks passing to and from the Port of HaminaKotka. MCS technology is one of the newest developments in truck charging technology, facilitating charging speeds of up to 1.2 megawatts for the first time.

The Mussalo charging site has been initially equipped with 1,800kW worth of power in the form of three 600kW Kempower Power Units, delivering power to four Kempower Mega Satellites CCS and one Kempower Mega Satellite MCS. Each Mega Satellite CCS can deliver ultra-fast charging of up to 560kW and each Mega Satellite MCS can deliver up to 1.2MW, making it Finland’s largest public truck charging station with the highest power per plug in the country. The station opened to trucks in December 2025.

The ultra-high-speed infrastructure means that e-truck drivers using the station in Kotka will now be able to fully recharge their vehicle within the shortest legally mandated rest stop time of 45 minutes, meaning more long-haul journeys can be electrified.

Looking ahead, Kempower and Plugit plan to open a further 15-20 sites across Finland, Sweden and as far as France, where another of Plugit’s collaborators, the charge point operator Bump, will offer Kempower fast charging solutions to its own customers.

Alongside the rollout of charging stations, Kempower and Plugit are collaborating on research and development initiatives which will focus on a number of areas including smart booking systems, energy management, guidance systems for trucks and charging hardware pilots.

Erik Kanerva, Sales Director for Northern Europe at Kempower, said: “Partnering with Plugit helps us to deliver reliable and robust fast charging sites at scale across the Nordics – something that is vital if we are to accelerate the transition and support the infrastructure rollout. We are proud that together we brought the first public MCS truck charging site to Finland, an important milestone and symbol of the turning point we’re at. While previously there have been just a handful of public charging stations for trucks in Finland, there are dozens in the pipeline for the next few years as we build a nationwide network capable of supporting the next generation of electric heavy goods vehicles.”

René Graichen, Chief Operating Officer at Plugit, said: “We’re excited to already be building momentum with our work alongside Kempower, with 15 successful projects already delivered. Combining Kempower’s technology and Plugit’s expertise in leading EV charging projects helps us to provide both quality service and solutions – essential foundations for a successful charging business and enabling the electrification of both passenger vehicles and trucks.”
