Qt Group Plc | Press Release | November 5, 2026 at 10:00 am EET

HMI solutions for automotive and home appliance applications can now deliver rich graphics and smooth responsiveness without relying on external memory, helping reduce system cost and complexity.

Kyoto, Japan and Espoo, Finland, November 5, 2026 – Nuvoton Technology Corporation Japan (NTCJ) and Qt Group (Nasdaq Helsinki: QTCOM) today jointly announced that Nuvoton's Gerda™, an HMI controller platform delivering premium graphical user interfaces without external memory, is now supported as target hardware for Qt for MCUs. From automotive and motorcycle instrument clusters and head-up displays to home appliance display panels, the combination enables rich graphics, fluid animations, and responsive touch interaction while meeting the cost requirements of high-volume production.

The extensive component library, advanced graphics engine, and flexible development environment of Qt for MCUs enable developers to create visually rich and intuitive human-machine interfaces (HMI) efficiently. Running on Gerda™, high-resolution graphics, smooth animations, and responsive touch interaction enabled by Qt for MCUs deliver a premium user experience, all without requiring external memory. This capability is becoming increasingly important as software-defined vehicles demand more sophisticated user experiences, memory costs continue to impact system budgets, and over-the-air (OTA) updates become an expected feature across connected products.

Maximized memory efficiency for lower system cost

Gerda™'s large built-in RAM, together with its rich set of display, connectivity, and control interfaces, enables standalone HMI systems without the need for external memory. Qt for MCUs’ advanced graphics optimization and Gerda™'s texture compression work together to reduce the memory footprint of the graphical user interface (GUI). The result is a lower component count and total system cost, which is particularly important in high-volume products.

Flexible, secure GUI updates OTA

As software-defined vehicles spread, with connected appliances and two-wheelers close behind, over-the-air feature and GUI updates are becoming standard. The Qt for MCUs development environment and Gerda™'s security features enable safe, efficient updates, so developers can change interfaces and add features long after a product ships.

Faster from design to production

Qt for MCUs’ integrated development environment, ready-made GUI components, intuitive QML language, simulation, and agentic AI skills smooth collaboration between design and software teams and streamline the workflow from design through implementation and verification. Combined with Gerda™, this reduces GUI development complexity, helping teams build reliable applications in less time and at lower cost.

“The quality of the user experience has become a key differentiator for modern products. By combining Gerda™ with Qt for MCUs, customers can deliver premium graphical user experiences while balancing performance, memory efficiency, and system cost.” — Yoshihide Kanakubo, Vice President, Battery and Automotive BG, Nuvoton

“For years, the choice of a microcontroller was between an interface people enjoy using and a system cost the product could carry. That trade-off is what we set out to remove. Working with Nuvoton, teams can now build the kind of interface users already expect, on hardware priced for high-volume production.” — Michele Rossi, Director, Qt MCUs Product Management, Qt Group

Availability and demonstration

Qt for MCUs’ support for the Nuvoton Gerda™ family is available today. Nuvoton will demonstrate Qt-based interfaces running live on Gerda™ hardware at electronica 2026, at Hall B5. 360 in Trade Fair Center Messe München, Munich, Germany, 10–13 November 2026.
