Excellent article on Yle about the mainstreaming of electric vehicles; for example, in Finland, it has happened faster than predicted. A researcher who has studied attitudes says: “I would bet that for electric cars, we are starting to reach the stage where this begins to socially explode.” This means that electric driving is becoming the social norm. The one-minute video included in the article, featuring interviews with a couple of electric vehicle owners, is also nice; one mentions having driven for over 40 years and rediscovering the joy/pleasure of driving through an electric car. There is plenty of growth ahead, both long-term and aggressive. In Norway, practically all cars sold are electric. Yet, only 30% of the car fleet is electric. This means at least 3x the number of chargers is needed. In a tiny country like Finland, only 5-6% of the car fleet consists of electric cars. Gemini 3.0:  Current Situation (12/2025) Finland’s electrification is well underway, but we are only at the starting line regarding infrastructure:   Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV): approx. 154,000 units (5.6% of the car fleet).   Charging sites (Hubs): 688 units.   Charging cables (CCS): 3,736 units.   Ratio: approx. 41 BEVs per one high-power charging point (CCS). (>150 kW)    Upcoming Task and Schedule To maintain the current service level as the car fleet electrifies, new infrastructure must be built as follows: 1. Scenario: 50% electric cars (approx. 1.4 million BEVs)   When: approx. in the year 2040 (15 years from now).   Need: A total of approx. 44,350 cables and 8,200 sites.   New to be built: approx. 40,600 cables and 7,500 sites.   2. Scenario: 100% electric cars (approx. 2.75 million BEVs)   When: approx. in the years 2050–2055 (30 years from now).   Need: A total of approx. 88,700 cables and 16,400 sites.   New to be built: approx. 85,000 cables and 15,700 sites.   In summary: Finland must more than 23-fold (+2,274%) its current high-power charging network over the next three decades. This means installing an average of about 2,800 new fast-charging points every single year from this moment until 2055.  This is just in Finland with 5 million inhabitants. Calculate from that what it means on the scale of Europe, America, or the world outside of China.  I wouldn’t be selling my shares anytime soon, even if the price jumped 100%. (On top of this: ports, HDV [Heavy Duty Vehicles], etc.)

This is an excellent question and the answer is simple and concise. A satellite-based system distributes the power of the entire grid connection among all chargers. An operator can install 5 Alpitronic HYC400 chargers, which distribute the power of a 2000 kW connection based on a 200/200 kW principle within a single charger. Kempower distributes that same 2000 kW power among all chargers. As electric vehicles become as common elsewhere in the world as in the Nordics, 16.7% (weighted average) will no longer be enough with standalone units. Furthermore, even in this relatively small 10-car hub, a lot of electricity remains unsold. It is unlikely that all 10 cars would ever accept 200 kW of power simultaneously. If, instead, 20 Kempower chargers are installed with 25 kW power allocation (cf. 50 kW in Alpitronics and only between two cars), the efficiency of the connection is on a completely different level. The grid connection is, however, one of the most expensive running costs. Additionally, if one power module happens to break, it hardly has an impact. With standalone chargers, you would need to know which charger is faulty and which ones provide full power. A satellite is cheap to repair if someone crashes into it with a snowplow. It’s much easier to upgrade the number of satellites; they take up less space, and it’s easy to add power to the central unit as the hub grows.  This is also what happens with Alpitronics, but a car at charger 1 won’t get any extra speed if a car leaves charger 2 or 3—unlike in Kempower’s system where power is limited and RELEASED in 25 kW blocks. At least in Finland, I’ve never managed to get the connection to limit the power with a Tesla at these >1 MW hubs, even when the hub has occasionally been full. At 600 kW hubs, occasionally for a moment.  Cars rarely arrive to charge at the same time, and for many cars, after just 10-15 minutes of charging, the power starts to drop and is released for the next ones. With Alpitronic, the car reserves 50/100/150/200 kW from the charger depending on which of these power levels has been exceeded. That’s also why Alpitronic has brought the HYC1000 system to market, but it has 1000 kW vs. 1200 kW (Kempower), 62.5 kW power distribution vs. 25 kW, 8 charging spots vs. 12, etc.

Why is that modular structure better than individual chargers?  Is it a more cost-effective solution (per charging point)? Easier to build in terms of infrastructure when the power electronics are in only one place. Are the satellites “lighter”? If the site is empty, is the power (charging speed) of a single point higher? But if the site is, for example, half full, does the charging power of a single point drop rapidly?  Am I on the right track at all?
