Finnair is a Finnish airline. The company offers a wide range of destinations to and from Europe, and to a large part of the world's continents. The flights are mainly found around the Nordic countries, Europe and Asia. In addition to regular flights, long-haul flights are offered. The company was founded in 1923 and is headquartered in Vantaa, Finland. 

Here is a company preview report on Finnair from Antti and Kaisa, ahead of its Q1 results next Wednesday.  We have raised our Finnair Q1 estimates following stronger-than-expected traffic data and estimate that the operating result has improved significantly from the comparison period. We expect Finnair to reiterate its guidance and achieve it despite cost pressures. In our view, however, the earnings improvement aligned with our forecasts is already priced into the stock, which is why the expected return on a one-year horizon remains below our required rate of return in our models. Consequently, we are making no changes to our view on Finnair ahead of the Q1 report. Here are Antti’s and Kaisa’s comments on Finnair’s March.  Finnair published its traffic report for March on Thursday. Overall, the report was stronger than our expectations, supported by robust growth in passenger volumes and an excellent passenger load factor. This strong development was partly bolstered by strong demand in Asian traffic, which we estimate has been affected by the escalating situation in the Middle East through a reduction in market capacity. However, the outlook is overshadowed by the Middle East conflict and the risks it brings to demand and fuel prices. Finnair will publish its Q1 results on April 22, and we will update our forecasts as needed before the results are released. The validity of the credit limit has also been extended:

A very probable scenario, at least regarding (engine) maintenance.  Probably so from the perspective of the full realization of the options and purchase rights. Of course, these can presumably be realized partially as well, depending on the growth plans’ coefficients for the next strategy period or periods. However, these are rather distant matters.

A sunny spring day from Finnair!  It’s been a reasonably hectic start to the week with Monday’s news and Tuesday’s Annual General Meeting, but I finally managed to put together a summary of the aforementioned events with questions and answers. We will enter a quiet period next week and return online with the Q1 earnings release on Wednesday, April 22nd. @Kaisa_Vanha-Perttula made her debut on the other side of the studio table today, in the role of an interviewee, when a segment about Finnair was filmed.  And Kaisa, together with Antti, has done an excellent job of taking charge of monitoring Finnair! The main themes of the video were especially the direct and indirect effects of the situation in the Middle East, and of course, the dissection of the massive investments. I believe that the airframes of these departing aircraft have not yet reached their full hours and especially not their full cycles. However, extending their life cycle would require expensive maintenance and possibly also a refresh of the cabin. This would be an investment of millions per aircraft, and amortizing it would require several years. In that case, replacing these aircraft would be delayed by several years to make economic sense. The current Embraer aircraft are currently undergoing cabin refurbishment, and in that sense, their potentially rapid removal from the fleet is somewhat confusing. Their future was commented on in the webcast, but I didn’t really get anything out of it. Perhaps Finnair has a plan with DAT regarding their future? Regarding the used Airbuses to be acquired, it will be interesting to see what Finnair finds on the market. In my opinion, the optimal solution would be aircraft equipped with IAE engines and with a cabin as close as possible to Finnair’s current configuration. This would allow Finnair to completely drop CFM56 engines, and refurbishing the cabin to Finnair’s liking would be cheaper.  The total size of the order with options and purchase rights was 46, and I believe its full realization would require a shift in tectonic plates. It’s impossible to fit that many aircraft into Finnish/Finland-based traffic, as larger narrow-bodies are still needed alongside them for high-volume destinations. Flight frequency can, of course, be increased with smaller aircraft, but not on this scale in my opinion.
